September 9 - Debra Bernier Drifts into Our Notice...

Posted on September 9, 2020

There must be SO MANY amazing artists creating amazing paintings and sculptures and ceramics and photos and all manner of artworks - because I am constantly seeing yet another one here, there, and everywhere.

On this date last year, yet another one:

Debra Bernier lives near the ocean, way up north in Canada, and she frequently walks along the shore, explores the tide pools, and looks for natural things she can use in her artwork. Bernier reports that she has a sort of reverence for nature, for the amount of time it takes a fossil to form or a rock to be smoothed by waves, for the amount of subtle variety found in seashells and shapes of driftwood.

Bernier takes those natural materials, takes that reverence for nature, and creates fantasy sculptures that show the connectedness of people with the environment - the connections between humans and other living things - the link between all of us and the sea...
