What
could be more American than cheeseburgers?
It
appears clear that the cheeseburger was indeed invented in the U.S.,
but exactly when and by whom, there are a lot of claims. All the
claims date back to the 1920s and 1930s.
I
personally like this story, because I grew up in Pasadena,
California:
Once
upon a time, a fellow named Lionel Sternberger was working in his
dad's sandwich shop in (you guessed it) Pasadena, California. In
1926, he decided to try an experiment, and he dropped a slice of
American cheese onto a sizzling hamburger patty.
Of
course, he decided it was yum!, others agreed, and the rest is
history!

- Some restaurants (and airlines!) are offering free or discounted / special deal cheeseburgers today.
Cheeseburgers
come up once in a while in pop culture...
- “Cheeseburger-cheeseburger-cheeseburger-cheeseburger!” was the famous cry in a Saturday Night Live sketch.
- In-N-Out Burgers are so popular – especially their double cheeseburgers – that many communities celebrate when one opens there. Some really famous chefs like Julia Child, Hell's Kitchen's Gordon Ramsey, and chef-TV personality Anthony Bourdain love the place!
- On the cartoon Popeye, the character Wimpy really LOVES hamburgers. It doesn't look like there is any cheese on his burgers, but the fast food chain called Wimpy, in his honor, certainly sells loads of cheeseburgers!
- Gummi candies come in all shapes and colors. A fairly popular is the teeny-tiny cheeseburger!
This
is going too far!
- Cheeseburger bedding? Yick!
- Cheeseburger flavored Goldfish crackers? Yuck!
- A cheeseburger bike bag? Umm...?
