This is the national day of Taiwan, which is sometimes called the Republic of China. Double Ten Day celebrates the start of the Wuchang Uprising on this date in 1911. The uprising led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in China and the establishment of the Republic of China on January 1, 1912.The double cross is the symbol for the day, because the character for 10 is a single cross. And today is the tenth day of the tenth month!
Typically, the national day is celebrated with parades and fireworks as well as displays of Chinese dance and martial arts.
