June 20 – National Flip-Flop Day

Posted on June 20, 2014

Tropical Smoothie Cafe raises funds for its charity partner, Camp Sunshine, getting donations online or in their cafes. Camp Sunshine is a place where kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families can make “magical memories” together, at no cost to the families. It sounds like a very worthwhile cause – and Tropical Smoothie people point out that it is the only camp for kids with illnesses that includes the family of the kids – which I imagine makes it so much more wonderful for those kids!

From 2:00 to 7:00 today, people wearing flip-flops into the a Tropical Smoothie Cafe will get a free 24-oz. Smoothie (Jetty Punch flavor). Its the cafe's way of saying “thanks” to its customers and especially to the people who donate to Camp Sunshine. I am hoping that most of the people getting a free smoothie make a donation!

By the way, Tropical Smoothie Cafe has more than 300 locations in 34 states, but California (which has to be the Flip-Flop Capital of the World LOL!) doesn't have a single one. If you love what the company is doing, however, you can still donate online.

Make your own Flip-Flop Smoothie Day.

If you don't live near a Tropical Smoothie Cafe, you can still wear flip-flops, drink a smoothie, and make a donation to Camp Sunshine or any other worthy cause. Here are some great smoothie recipes.

Did you know that the flip-flop is the oldest form of footwear that is still worn today? This popular sandal has been worn for at least 6,000 years! Learn more about the history of flip-flops (we used the Japanese word zoris when I was a kid) here
