October 27 - Black Cat Day

There used to be a big problem trying to get people to adopt black kittens and cats. I guess there was an association of black cats with witches, and an association of witches with evil?

Who, me? Evil?



A decade or so ago, several groups started campaigns to erase that association and help beautiful black felines become accepted and welcomed into homes. Years ago I wrote about Black Cat Appreciation Day, which is celebrated in August, and today's holiday is another day to promote acceptance of and love for black cats.




Of course, being so near Halloween, this will actually emphasize the connection between black cats and witches and Halloween itself - but surely that's an awesome thing, really? Don't we (most of us) love this harvest-time holiday?




By the way, I can't help noticing how many Halloween-ish holidays are clustering around the Big Night itself, these days. That is a sure sign that a holiday is hugely popular. Here are some of the other Halloween-adjacent days I have written about:
