Born in Tasmania, Australia, on this date in 1983, Rebecca White is a politician, a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly and a leader of the Parliamentary Labor Party in Tasmania. (That party is considered a center-left party, as opposed to the Liberal Party, which is center-right.)
White is a sixth generation Tasmanian! You might already know that Tasmania is an island off the southeastern coast of Australia as well as an Australian state.
Here, Tasmania is colored red. |
Tasmania is known for:
Unusual animals, like the Tasmanian devil and Tasmanian tiger, both marsupials (that is, pouched animals like opossums, koalas, and kangaroos).
Unfortunately, the Tasmanian tiger is extinct. (Check out this short but fascinating video to find out why that may not be true - or may not stay true?)
The Neck, a spit of land where you can often see fairy penguins.
Gorgeous sights at Fortescue Bay.
Beautiful Russell Falls and other beautiful natural landmarks.
Also on this date:
Facebook's birthday
Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
Composer Johann Ludwig Bach's birthday
