May 13, 2012 - Frog Jumping Day

For some (possibly strange) reason, Frog Jumping Day is celebrated every May 13th. This holiday is supposed to be connected to the story that first made Mark Twain a famous writer: “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”—but the date doesn't seem to have anything to do with the story or Twain...Hmm.

This year, Frog Jumping Day just happens to be the same day as Mother's Day. Warning: Do NOT give your mother a real-live jumping frog as a Mother's Day gift!

You can read the Twain story here, or listen to a song about the story over here.

Here are some frog games you can play—including a fun version of Leap Frog.

Make an origami frog that jumps!
