January 23 - National Pie Day

Posted on January 23, 2020

Today's holiday should never, ever be confused with Pi Day, March 14, which is all about math AND desserts, circumferences and diameters of circles AND yummy pies.

In my opinion, the double entendre of Pi Day being celebrated with pies is so clever, I cannot believe we even need a Pie Day, but a Colorado teacher named Charlie Papazian, way back in the mid-1970s, declared his own birthday to be Pie Day. And something that is more than 40 years old cannot be shrugged off just because it lacks a double entendre!

So grab your rolling pin and start making pies! Or get pre-baked pies at your favorite restaurant, bakery, or grocery store. Try a new one, or have your old-reliable favorite! If you want to go extreme, have a pie eating contest!
