October 12 - Children's Day in Brazil

Posted October 12, 2019

There's nothing more important to celebrate than children. In new generations, we find new hope for new ideas and new perspectives. Innovation! Excitement! Creativity!

Dia das Crianças is celebrated by many Brazilian families by kids getting gifts from their parents - and apparently retailers look forward to selling a lot more toys and other products around this holiday. I read that, as far as kids and gifts for kids are concerned, this holiday is bigger than Christmas!

Schools are generally off for the entire week - making this Brazil's version of spring break. (Remember, almost all of Brazil is in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Brazil is a huge country, and there are many different native peoples as well as people with European and/or African heritage. Plus of course an assortment of people from other parts of the world, and people with many different ethnicities in their ancestry.

By the way, today is also Our Lady of Aparecida Day in Brazil - another chance for the Catholics in the nation (which is most of the population) to honor the Virgin Mary.
