June 18 - Happy Birthday, Paul McCartney

 Posted on June 18, 2021

This is an update of my post published on June 18, 2010:

Born on this day in 1942, this British lad grew up to be one of the most famous musicians of all times, an essential part of perhaps THE most famous rock band of all times:

The Beatles.

In 1979, the Guinness Book of World Records feted M
cCartney as the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music. More than forty years later, he still holds the honor - and some people have made legit-sounding cases for his record NEVER being broken.

A more recent honor - Rolling Stone Magazine's 2015 "Greatest Songwriter" list - pegs McCarthy as #2 "greatest," behind Bob Dylan.

As of 2005, McCarthy held so many Guinness World Records - he actually held the record for most records, with 22 different world records!!!

CRAZY!

His records included : most unique recordings/covers of a song ("Yesterday"), most questions asked online (more than 3 million questions in one 30-minute session!), largest concert for a rock artist (more than 180,000!), most #1 singles on a US chart (20), most consecutive #1 singles on a UK chart (11), etc.

Wikipedia includes in McCartney's accomplishments, along with being a singer/songwriter for the Beatles, Wings, and solo efforts, “composer, multi-instrumentalist, entrepreneur, record and film producer, poet, painter, and animal rights activist.”

McCartney is one of the world's wealthiest musicians and one of Britain's wealthiest citizens. AND he has been knighted, so that's Sir Paul McCartney to you and me, thank you very much!
