September 5 - A Knitted Fence?

Posted on September 5, 2019

A picket fence is supposed to be so nice - and so conventional. It stands for middle class suburban life (at least in America).

Obviously, a picket fence is prettier than a chain link fence...

...But prettier still is the fence KNITTED by a woman in Scotland! If you ever go to the town of Burra, you can see a fence knitted from the kind of cord that is usually used to make fishing nets.

Of course, normal knitting needles weren't going to work, so kintter Anne Eunson had curtain poled adapted into knitting needles. Her fence is a repeated Shetland lace pattern.

Wow! How pretty is that?!

Today is the anniversary of a 2012 article about Eunson's fence - thus bringing word to the world about this local treasure.
