The swoop of a giant flower petal against the sky!
The sproooooooing of a giant spring in a clockwork at the park!
The lovely folds of draped and gathered fabric on the lawn!
These large-scale sculptures are of course not actually flower petals or springs or fabric, but rather metal sculptures made by artist Alice Aycock.
Born in Pennsylvania on this date in 1946, Aycock was one of the first artists to participate in the land art movement of the 1970s, in which art pieces are often:
usually large-scale,
sometimes temporary,
usually specific to the place where they are built and displayed,
sometimes using materials found at the site.
