May 9 – Anniversary of the Consecration of Lincoln Cathedral

If I told you that Lincoln Cathedral was consecrated on this date in 1092, you wouldn't think this had anything to do with THIS Lincoln, right?

Wrong country, for one thing. Lincoln Cathedral is in England, and Abraham Lincoln lived in the United States.

And of course, wrong century.

WAY wrong.

Lincoln lived about 700 years after this cathedral was consecrated!



Lincoln Cathedral is one of best examples of medieval architecture in England, and for a while it was the tallest building in the world. Its current version (it was built for years, and rebuilt after a fire and then again after an earthquake) is quite innovative and experimental. Here are a few things it is known for:
