If
I told you that Lincoln Cathedral was consecrated on this date in
1092, you wouldn't think this had anything to do with THIS Lincoln,
right?
Wrong
country, for one thing. Lincoln Cathedral is in England, and Abraham
Lincoln lived in the United States.
And
of course, wrong century.
WAY wrong.
Lincoln
lived about 700 years after this cathedral was consecrated!
Lincoln
Cathedral is one of best examples of medieval architecture in
England, and for a while it was the tallest building in the world.
Its current version (it was built for years, and rebuilt after a fire
and then again after an earthquake) is quite innovative and
experimental. Here are a few things it is known for:
The beautiful interior |
Imps |
Rose windows |
Towers (inside view) |
Varied vaulted ceilings |
The Wren Library |
