August 7 – Twins Days Festival

Posted on August 7, 2015

Did you know that there is a town in Ohio called Twinsburg?

And did you know that every year that town hosts the largest annual gathering of twins and other “multiples” in the world?

This year is the 40th Annual Twins Days Festival!

We're talking about twins, triplets, quads, identical and fraternal, young and old, multiples and their families.

What do people do at a Twins Day gathering?

Everything from golf and volleyball to raffles and wiener roasts, the Double Take Parade and a Twins' Talent Show, fireworks and entertainment, a 5K race and a dance, karaoke and group photos.

Of course a huge part of the fun is getting to meet other twins and multiples, chatting with them about the joys and challenges of being a twin, and taking cute twins-together photos!

Take a peek at the official website for more!

Did you know...?

  • In addition to identical and fraternal twins, there are other, rarer types of twins, including half-identical twins, mirror image twins, mixed chromosome twins, and other types!

  • Also, some twins have different birthdays – or are even born in a different year! Of course, that can happen because some babies are born near midnight.

Let's say that one twin is born at 11:57 p.m. on April 18, and the other twin is born at 12:01 a.m. on April 19 – the twins are only born four minutes apart, but they have different birthdays.
A more extreme example is a baby born at, say, 11:55 p.m. on December 31, 2014 and the twin is born at 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2015. Not only is the birthday different, the two babies are born in different months and years – even though they are only born seven minutes apart!

  • Sometimes, identical twins marry identical twins. There is a “twin couple” in China that ran a diner that was open for 21 hours a day, staging their shifts so that none of the twins were ever on at the same time. People thought it was just one couple running the diner, but they began to notice that neither the man or woman EVER SEEMED TO SLEEP! They began to be called “The Robot Couple.”

After three years, the truth finally came out that the super-couple was really TWO couples of identical twins!
