June 16, 2012 - Wicket World of Croquet Day

Do you play croquet?”

A certain fictional queen asked a certain fictional girl this question. Do you know which characters?
This game of croquet occurred at the South Pole!

It was the Queen of Hearts who asked Alice if she played croquet—and it all happened in Wonderland. Today Alice in Wonderland is the theme of a day of croquet tournaments at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kids can play with the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and Alice, and there are snacks and photo ops and even croquet lessons. To participate in the adult croquet tournament, players must wear white!

Celebrate!

If you have a croquet set, re-read the rules and play a match today.

Watch or read Alice in Wonderland. (Again!)

Can you make a miniature set of croquet to play, perhaps using a marble as a ball? I'm thinking pipe cleaners and modeling clay to act as wickets that can stand up on a table. Hit the ball by flicking the marble with your pointer finger.

Find out more about Benjamin Harrison, who is the only U.S. president from Indiana. Can you fill in the following blank? Benjamin Harrison is the only U.S. president who was the ___________ of another president.

Here is a wacky relay game based on croquet.
