March 7 - National Play Outside Day

Posted on March 7, 2020

(First Saturday of every month)

TV, smart phones, computers, video games, screens-screens-screens!

All of these could keep people busy indoors their entire lives...

...But maybe being indoors all of our lives isn't the best thing!?!

Studies show that being out in nature - and it doesn't have to be a trackless wilderness; it could be just your own yard! - has good effects on our physical health and mental wellbeing.

Outside, it's easier to get great heart-healthy exercise and to really stretch out our larger muscles.

Play is good for humans (and other creatures), too. We learn a lot through play, and playing (or working at something that we love so much, it becomes a kind of play) is good for our creativity and life satisfaction.

Because of these huge benefits, the first Saturday of every month is National Play Outside Day. Families are urged to get out of the house, together, and play sports, imaginative games, casual chase and hiding and catch games, whatever!
