October 15 - Maths Day

World Maths Day is the largest math competition in the world, with millions of students in tens of thousands of schools participating. It's a free, all-inclusive event, which is one reason it's popular - and mathletes don't have to put a lot of money into equipment and uniforms! And because it's an online event, it can still occur in the middle of a pandemic. 

But all of that is not what's happening today - because World Maths Day is held in March. Today is Maths Day with no "World" - and it's a day for competitions, games, even movies - all dealing with math!


(By the way, speaking of "world" and "maths," Canadians and Americans tend to shorten the term mathematics to math, whereas Brits and Australians tend to shorten the term to maths. Both shortened versions are correct.)
