(Thursday of American Education Week)
American Education Week is held the school week before Thanksgiving, with special theme days each of the five days:
Monday - Kickoff Day
Tuesday - Parents Day
Wednesday - Education Support Professionals Day
Thursday - Educator for a Day
Friday - Substitute Educators Day
I guessed that Educator for a Day was a day when people in the community could come and teach kids something they were knowledgeable and hopefully passionate about...
...And I was right, but...
...I didn't realize that it is even more than that! The Educator for a Day works with a teacher or other school employee to do ALL of the tasks expected of a school teacher.
We're talking recess duty, lunch duty, hall duty, after school programs, tutoring, game or dance supervision, whatever local teachers do - ALL of it! It's great if the Educator for a Day is someone who helps make decisions about schools, because they will surely learn about the importance of having adequate funding for school staff and support services.
