On this date in 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was proclaimed as an independent nation.
Buuuut...then, only 23 months later, the Bolshevik Army of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics attacked and absorbed Azerbaijan! It took more than 70 years for Azerbaijan to achieve its independence again.
Unlike many nations that used to be a part of the USSR, Azerbaijan is relatively rich. It has a lot of oil and natural gas, tourism is big, and it has the largest agricultural basin in the region.
Tourists can enjoy so many different sort of landscapes, including the beautiful Caucasus Mountains...
