May 20 – Cameroon's National Day

Posted on May 20, 2017

Cameroon is a West African nation that was colonized by Germany in the late 1800s until World War I, when it was divided between France and the U.K. It won its independence in the early 1960s.

It's a fairly stable nation - but there are a lot of poor people living on subsistence farming, and its single-party elections have resulted in an authoritarian president who has ruled the nation for 35 years.

Cameroon has so much diversity in both landforms, wildlife, and cultures, it is sometimes called "Africa in miniature."

One of the important crops is cacao. Check out this video about changes in cacao production in times of global warming.

Of course, like all nations, Cameroon has beautiful natural sights...

...amazing national parks and preserves...

...and beautiful kids who will hopefully have opportunities to improve their own lives and world.
