September 3 – Anniversary of the Detective Agency's First Album

Posted on September 3, 2016

On this date in 2008, the Swedish group called Detektivbyrån (“Detective Agency”) released Wermland, their first full-length album. They won Grammys, and positive reviews, and an enthusiastic following.

What I like about their music is the tinkly, happy sound. I guess you're going to have a tinkly, happy sound when one musician plays the music box as well as the accordion, and another plays the glockenspiel, traktofon, toy piano, and even the Theremin! The third member of the group plays the drums – but also the sound box and small bells!

Check out the group in the Making of Wermland video.

The theremin might be known to many
Americans because Sheldon Cooper
occasionally plays it on The Big Bang Theory.
The Theremin is so interesting – the first electronic instrument ever invented! Check out this video about theremins.

Here is a demo of a glockenspiel.
