November 23 – Family Volunteer Day

Posted November 23, 2013
Today is the 22nd Family Volunteer Day created by GenerationOn / Points of Light.  A day of service to others is supposed to kick off the holiday season in the best possible way.

Volunteering is amazing and often life-changing, but volunteering as a family can be full-out fun. We are urged to gather even extended family, such as grandparents and cousins, to clean up a park or make cards for children in the hospital or...well, there are thousands of worthwhile things to do.

According to the GenerationOn website, it's tough to send much-needed supplies to the Philippines right now because roads and airports have been destroyed. Instead, we can help by raising money and then sending one big donation to an organization that is already there in the Philippines, helping people.

Check the Philippines Typhoon page for instructions about creating a Dimes for Disaster project.  The three recommended charities, which give 90% of its donations directly to the people in need, are Care, Save the Children, and UNICEF.
