February 12 - A Toddler Picasso?

Posted on February 12, 2020

There was an art gallery in New York City (the art capital of the United States) that had an exhibit of paintings made by...a two-year-old girl!

In showing a toddler's art, the curator said that she intended "to show people how pure and simple art can really be."
Which is all very fine and well, but what makes this art...

Painting by Lola June

...any better than this toddler art...

...or this children's art...

...or this adult-made art, never shown in an art gallery?

It makes you wonder about art and art galleries and art exhibits...

But today, on the anniversary of the 2019 opening of Lola June's exhibition, I want to say that highlighting one toddler's art in an art gallery can perhaps help us to see the artistry in all toddlers' art. And maybe that is a very, very good thing!
