October 5 - World Teachers' Day

Posted October 5, 2019

Teachers are everywhere.

The friend who is helps you with your knitting, the neighbor who lets you watch him fix a car, the cousin who knows all the latest dance steps, parents, clergy, librarians - there are lots of people who teach you, me, and others.

But for some people, teaching is more than a casual, sometime kind of thing.

It's their passion - their calling. They want to teach a particular skill or subject, or they want to teach a particular group.

Many of these passionate teachers have teacher training, university degrees, and/or state teaching licenses. Many get paid to teach. Some teachers are shadowed by college students, or observed by community leaders. Some make special YouTube lessons for far-flung audiences and students. Some win awards.

Most go without all that much attention, appreciation, or remuneration. Most aren't paid enough - many don't have great or even safe working conditions - many don't have enough materials or new books or fast internet.

If you know a good teacher, or have a good teacher - do something to tell her or him that you DO appreciate the efforts, the caring, the hours, the love!
