Know whom you should ride with.
Never take shortcuts on the way home.
Avoid vacant lots, alleyways, and construction sites.
Never play in empty or deserted buildings.
Never go with someone who doesn't know your family's secret word.
Never let anyone know you are home alone.
All these bits of advice come from Safety Pup, and the National Child Safety Council.
There are tons of Safety Pup materials available here, and Safety Pup has been advising kids on safety on milk cartons, in school and community visits, and with coloring books and handouts. Basically, the materials should be available from your local police or sheriff.
Here are a few web-based activities for kids.
