– Chad

Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It is one of the poorest countries in the world, and corruption and civil war have plagued it for decades. Because of all the political unrest and the spill-over from the genocidal civil war in Sudan, Chad is dangerous for travelers—and with the tourism industry now dwindling, Chad has become even poorer. Poverty and violence truly are vicious cycles.
Perhaps, though, we can be virtual tourists, and we can explore some of the sights of Chad in safety. Check out the amazing photos by David Santiago Garcia of Zakouma National Park, including gorgeous landscapes, teeming wildlife, and colorfully-garbed people. I especially love the close ups of elephants and the sky-shots of thousands of birds (or bats?).
And, oh, my gosh, I LOVED this video of rock climbing in the Ennedi Desert! The photography is wonderful (I love the time-lapse sequences), the landscape is truly awe-inspiring, and the exploits of the rock climbers are heart-stoppingly crazy to me....
